New Year's Eve at the Sandai Farm in Kenya

Coming from Nyansiongo, we are on our way to the Sandai Farm near Nyeri. At the farm we will meet many friends from Germany and we will celebrate New Year's Eve together.

The Rift Valley is a province in Kenya. It is named after the Rift Valley, which passes through Eastern Africa and the Kenyan province.

The Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second highest in Africa (The Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa). Mount Kenya is 150 kilometres northeast of the capital Nairobi and is giving the name of the country.

We found a signpost to the Sandai Farm.

The Sandai Farm was established around 1970 by Petra Allmendinger and her family. You notice directly the family environment and feel comfortable.

The next late morning, I'm going for some bird watching around the farm.



In the back, you can recognize Mount Kenya.

The Sandai Farm is not connected to the local water supply or to the power grid. So renewable energy is of particular importance to the farm and I am happy to stay at a place that's using sustainable resources in Kenya.

A windmill is pumping water to water reservoirs, where also rainwater get collected. Wastewater gets partly filtered for reuseage or is collected in a pit drainage.

Our cottage

At the cottages hot water is produces through solar systems. Power is mainly generated through photovoltaic systems.

Early noon, we are already leaving the Sandai Farm and go back to Nairobi.

This evening we are invited to a huge bonding ceremony at Valeri's parents house. They live in Nairobi and we get to know ALL the relatives, neighboors and friends of Valerie before her wedding with Jochen on saturday.
